Summary of aeronautical information management modernization trends and how these trends are driving the move towards digital aeronautical information. The role and the history of AICM/AIXM.

Traditional and advanced case studies showcasing how AIXM can enable new possibilities. Summary of the results from a EUROCONTROL sponsored study at Darmstadt University, Germany. Shows the possibility of using AIXM 5 to update aerodrome mapping databases in cockpit displays.

Introduction to the main design concepts of AICM/AIXM 5. The first briefing focuses on GML, UML and the ISO 19100 series of geospatial standards. The second presentation provides a detailed review of AICM / AIXM 5 requirements and design recommendations and it is complemented by an example of AIXM 5 XML showing AIXM 5 messages that might be created when upgrading a navigation aid.

Introduction to the AICM conceptual domain model. Overview of existing concepts that will be merged into version 5: aerodrome/heliport, navaids & points, routes, airspace, traffic flow restrictions, organisations and services. Presentation of draft proposals for two conceptual areas that will be significantly enhanced in version 5:
- review of obstacle requirements and design recommendations based primarily on the new ICAO amendment 33;
- Review of approach procedure requirements and design recommendations
