Eurocontrol and the United States Federal Aviation Administration are pleased to announce plans to update AIXM 5.0 in August 2009. AIXM 5.1, which will correct flaws and provide minor improvements, is a small update, rather than a major release.
The schedule for the work involved in the release is as follows:
All proposed changes will be published on www.aixm.aero by the end of February 2009.
Comments on the changes, submitted via the AIXM Forum, will be accepted through the end of March 2009.
By May 1, 2009, all agreed changes will be incorporated into a Release Candidate (RC1) for AIXM 5.1. Please note that small bugs and non-essential editorial corrections might be incorporated into RC1 without being explicitly notified through a change proposal.
During May and June, RC1 will undergo testing. The support of the AIXM community will be essential in this period, in order to identify any weakness in the RC1 before the publication of the final release.
Final corrections will be made in July, 2009.
AIXM 5.1.0 will be published in August, 2009.
In the future, Major upgrades will be identified by changing the first digit in the version number, e.g., AIXM 6.0. Regular updates will be identified by incrementing the second digit, e.g., AIXM 5.2. Minor bug fixes will be identified by a third digit, e.g., AIXM 5.1.1.
AIXM 5.1 will be discussed at the Joint AIXM/WXXM Conference that is schedule to take place on May 12 – 14, 2009 in Washington, D.C. Registration information for the conference can be found at www.aixm.aero.
Please also note that, following the first meeting of its AIS-AIM Study Group, ICAO is planning to adopt AIXM 5.1.x as the aeronautical information exchange model for the provision of aeronautical information in digital format. The proposed Amendment 36 to Annex 15 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation will include a Recommendation and associated Guidance material in this area.
